She’s in Dallas!

A little background: Earlier this year I kept coming across a particular photo in tech-related marketing materials online and in print. At first, I thought the photo was just generic enough to seem familiar. But through an image search I quickly confirmed this wasn’t the case.

It turns out the photo, featuring a woman in a red v-neck sweater, crossing her arms and standing in a data center, is available from all of the usual stock photography sources and apparently has become the go-to photo for technology marketing departments at organizations large and small.

Surely these companies couldn’t all be turning to the same stock photo, you ask?

Why yes they can and they have!

Which I suppose shouldn’t be all that surprising. In my experience IT-folks are more often concerned with the way things work—not how they look. They often crook their heads in that funny way dogs do when you start talking about things like aesthetics, design, or visual appeal.

So, I had a hard time containing my big grin last weekend as I passed a vendor booth at SMB Summit, which Peter and I attended in Dallas, TX. Here she is:
