Windows 7 released to manufacturing

Microsoft announced today that the next version of its desktop operating system, Windows 7, had been released to manufacturing. Windows 7 will be available to customers with volume licensing agreements on September 1, and to the general public starting on October 22.

We’ve been running a release candidate of Windows 7 in our office for several months now and have found it to be much more stable and faster than Vista. The look and feel should seem very familiar to those of you already using Vista. New features include an improved taskbar and several enhancements that make managing application windows much easier – especially for users with dual monitors.

If you have a spare machine and are interested in taking it for a test drive, download a copy of the Windows 7 release candidate today. We also have a limited number of release candidate DVDs in our office – contact the helpdesk to request one.
