Where’s my bus?!

Waiting for the bus isn’t the most enjoyable way to spend your time. In fact, it seems like this is one of the main reason for not taking the bus, which is too bad because using mass transit one of the most effective ways of reducing our individual contributions to global climate change.

Windows Server 2008 uses less energy, claims Microsoft

Microsoft recently published a white paper showing that Windows Server 2008 uses up to 10% less energy than Server 2003.
Their tests show that, out of the box, Windows Server 2008 uses about 2% less power when idle and about 7% less when active compared to Server 2003. Support for Hyper-V, a hyper-visor based virtualization [...]

Rating technology’s green-factor

Much of last year we focused on greening our own operations, and we’ve been excited to start using our muscle (ok, they may be small, but we’re working out!) to nudge our clients toward more environmentally sustainable technology investments. And why not, when it’s a win-win for both our client (in terms of electricity savings) [...]

We’ve been featured front and center on the Seattle Climate Action Now Campaign website!
Knowing our 15 minutes of fame won’t last, I snapped a picture for posterity:

Defeating junk mail

I came home last night and decided that I could no longer ignore the giant stack of junk mail that accumulated while I was in Eastern Europe this month. Not only does getting rid of all of this entail dutifully removing my personally identifiable information (a lesson learned from a stolen identity 6 years ago), [...]

Greenpeace rates technology companies on their green record

Check out Greenpeace’s guide to greener electronics. The guide ranks the 14 top manufacturers of PCs and mobile phones according to their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling. Specifically, on how responsive these companies have been in eliminating hazardous substances from their products and implementing takeback/recycling programs for their products that become obsolete.
Here’s how the [...]

The coolest car since sliced bread

I just came across this totally cool new electric vehicle from Aptera. It was originally designed from the ground-up as an electric vehicle, but they’re planning on releasing two versions: an electric and plug-in hybrid. Not only is the vehicle right out of the future, it’ll travel 120 miles on electricity, and get anywhere from [...]

Is the grass greener on the other side (of the ocean)?

I’ve been working and traveling in Eastern Europe for the past 3 weeks. Most of my time has been in Bratislava, Slovakia, but I’ve been also able to visit Vienna and Budapest, and I’m now in Prague for the weekend before heading back to Seattle next week.
With all of the talk of green of late, [...]

Seattle Climate Action Now kicks off

The Seattle Climate Action Now campaign kicked off this morning at the recently renovated Seattle Aquarium. X-BAR is an official campaign business partner. (In fact, our logo was proudly showcased on the new Seattle CAN website that had been displayed on the plasma screen just behind the podium!)

Greening our operations

Like many others, over the past year we’ve become seriously concerned about our impact on our environment and our role in climate change. (As an individual, I’m not an alarmist by nature, but I have to say I’ve been freaked out a few times about the impact us humans are having on our planet.)

Neutralizing our carbon emissions

We just finished working with LiveNeutral to inventory and offset our greenhouse gas emissions for 2006.
