IT of a different shade
Think of IT and you may be imagining a bunch of energy-chewing cables snaking through a server room, or maybe your office computer guy pushing another cart loaded up with obsolete PCs headed for the landfill.
But, like many others, our industry has an opportunity to respond to the pressures our society and our planet are facing. That's why we try to make every X-BAR initiative an environmentally friendly one. We're not talking pie-in-the-sky promises or unnecessary added costs for our clients. We're talking about real (and realistic) action—an approach that factors in our (and our clients') energy consumption, reflects the high standards of our Northwest community, and delivers creatively against all of our eco goals.
Personally, we're committed to recycling what we can, using electricity and natural gas wisely, and supporting our employees' use of mass transit. We've implemented tools that allow us to remotely diagnose and resolve many issues right from our office. And when we do have to jump in the car, our recent purchase of a Prius makes those visits even more responsible.
Don't take our word for it. LiveNeutral just certified that we offset our CO2 emissions resulting from electricity and natural gas usage, employee bus commutes, and company air travel in 2006. But for that matter, don't take their word for it—or anyone's. We encourage you to learn about what you can do to reduce your own footprint and help preserve our environment for the citizens and companies that will follow—and, of course, the IT folks who will support them. Below is a list of some great places to begin exploring.
