Responsibilities

For this position, we really need an exceptional person—someone with the ability to support both the human and technical sides of technology. You’ll rely on excellent client service, problem solving, and communication skills to deliver system and network support, providing:

  • Proactive monitoring of infrastructures to identify and resolve issues before downtime occurs
  • Management of monthly patch and upgrade process for servers and major line-of-business applications
  • Tier 2 problem resolution for system and network issues
  • Collaboration with client’s dedicated consultant when a given issue has broader business or organizational consequences, or when that client could benefit from the implementation of a new technology or upgrade
  • Coordination of service requests with third-party technology providers, as needed
  • Security reviews and audits, system usage monitoring, and forecasting of future capacity requirements
  • Close contact and open communication with client and support team until issue is resolved
  • Maintenance of detailed work logs and technical documentation
  • Identification of areas where new or improved support policies and procedures may be needed or where new ones may need to be developed

Qualifications

Like we mentioned, a well-rounded person will really thrive in this position. Yes, you’ve got to be responsible, accountable, and professional. You’ve got to have a strong technical aptitude, be able to work well in a team, and be ultra-responsive to clients’ needs. But most of all, you need to bring a genuine enthusiasm for what technology can do for people. Plus, of course, all these important things:

  • Strong experience troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, system and network issues
  • Ability to install, upgrade, repair, move, and replace desktops, laptops, and peripherals
  • Expert knowledge of installing, configuring and maintaining all aspects of Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003-based networks, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, IIS, RRAS, and Exchange
  • Expert knowledge of Windows XP client operating systems and centralized management and troubleshooting techniques
  • Experience installing, configuring, and managing network equipment including firewalls, switches, and wireless access points
  • Experience with SonicWALL firewalls
  • Experience supporting VPN tunnels and multi-office WAN infrastructures
  • Experience supporting Terminal Services, thin-client architectures, and supporting users in these environments
  • Successful in providing technical support and problem resolution for unfamiliar software and hardware
  • Understanding of small- and medium-sized business networking protocols and internet connectivity
  • Ability to generate and maintain clear technical documentation and support records
  • Superior organizational, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Confidence to take on challenges and responsibilities without waiting to be told what to do
  • Availability during non-business hours, including rotating evening and weekend support
